Christine Moderbacher, born in Vienna. Filmmaker and Anthropologist.
Trainings in Visual and Social Anthropology and Documentary Film (MA Visual Anthropology at the University of Manchester, MPhil Social Anthropology at the University of Vienna, SIC – Sound Image Culture – Brussels, PhD Social Anthropology at the University of Aberdeen).
Since 2013 making films (Letter to Mohamed 2013, Red Earth White Snow 2018, The World is blue at its edges 2021), texts, video installations and audio features. Focusing on migratory and marginal worlds as well as visual and textual storytelling; in 2020-2021 she was a lecturer at the section of Media and Communication Studies at the Martin Luther University Halle Wittenberg; 2022-2023 she was a guest professor at the Film University Babelsberg Konrad Wolf in Potsdam. Currently she is working as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology in Halle, Germany and as a lecturer at the Institute for Social and Cultural Anthropology at the Martin Luther University Halle Wittenberg.
